On The Island

lyrics

In the kitchen counting questions
How’s your day?
And where have you been?
There’s a hole that lets the light in
Lets the night in through the ceiling
On the island
Bills collect
And catalogues
And mail makes mail

I can’t go back home
There’s a letter on the table
Addressed to me
I can’t go back home
There are shadows in the corner
And they’re never looking

Big black birds with broken necks fly
Cross the window on their way through
There are very different places
Full of better types of strangers
Don’t forget to check the deadbolt
Still bugs come back in envelopes
Letters slip in through the slot and mail escapes shoved in the box and mail makes mail

I can’t go back home
There are letters on the table addressed to me
I can’t go back home
There are shadows in the corner
And they’re never looking

On the island
There's a park behind
and acre of room with nothing in bloom
just the January smell of nothing in bloom on the island
The bugs are back

A ripe forgetting health
Glasses on the shelf
The bugs are back

On the island
….
Days of nights trickled down
Pictures on the wall

offsetting sequence
pattern on the wall
the troubled spider crawling back into its hole

a ripe forgetting health
the jars and glasses on the shelf

colorized

the days are getting longer now
on the island
the bugs are back
the bugs are back
….
…and there's no one to get your back?
